THERE is a way! Try this, Marge.....

When you have an image on screen in Adobe Acrobat Reader, take a
screen dump of it. You do this by pressing ALT/PRINTSCRN. Then open
up Photoshop, Paint or whatever your graphics program is, create a
new file, go to Edit on the menu bar (of the graphics program) and
click on PASTE.

You should find the screen image of the PDF file is pasted into the
graphics program. You can then manipulate it in the normal way, i.e.
crop out the bits of the screen you don't want, darken, lighten,
enlarge, enhance, etc - and save it as a graphics file in whatever
format you like.

I only have Acrobat Reader 4.0, like you, and I just tried it with
Photoshop and Paint and it works with both!
