1837 was the start of Civil Registration. So records before that were not
centralised, and you need to look at Parish registers. Have a look at
http://www.genuki.org.uk/gs/Newbie.html, scroll down to Part 3, and all will
be revealed.

you view system. You pay a minimum of £5. and for that you get a great
deal. These indexes are the same ones used if you write to the GRO at
Southport. it is much cheaper than making a visit from a long way away.
The money lasts for about 6 weeks so you have plenty of time to search.
It could prove very useful to many apple and the site takes all credit cards
on a very safe site. The indexes go up to 1984 from when they began in
July 1837.
