I was looking for a site which would say what a caller off on the Midland
Railway used to do, for Robin Butler. (Robin, I emailed York museum weeks
ago but they haven't been back to me) anyway, I stumbled across the British
Library Family history sire, which lists every possible site and
organisation, some (allegedly) free, others not. Just thought I'd mention
this for anyone who might not have seen it, it's worth a look, I think.

All the best, Stella

P.S. I still think a caller off was the man in the maintenance gang who
watched out for trains and called the gang off if a train was coming. If
anyone knows differently, I wish they'd tell me - and Robin, if he hasn't
found out by now. There are 2 sites full of archaic job names but this one
isn't there.
