Fellow posters,
May I offer a caveat from my experience? I've used the Ancestry family of
sites with wonderful results in times past, and unless you are a
lantern-jawed hunter, it's well worth the cost.
However, I suggest approaching Ancestry.com's 'One World Tree' offerings
with extreme caution, with eyes wide open and cynicism-field on full power.
What may have looked on paper plans to be a wonderful program has proven
fertile ground for the planting of strange seed by persons unknown who
haven't a clue about the relationships of time and place, logic or history.
Imagine coming upon a posting listing a son as born in Virginia in 1741 and
his sibling born in Los Angeles in 1965. Or, a husband from 1685 with a
spouse born in 1832. I've found entries such as people born in Tennessee in
1590, and the list goes on.
Just my take on a lurking and growing monster.
With caution you should have a ball, so, go for it and good luck hunting
and gathering.
---Gary in Berkeley
