I recall your original post, Sue, and I completely agree about the
"look-up culture". But this case is particularly blatant. Paul Hood,
in my view, is being quite grossly impudent and selfish in expecting
everybody else to do his research for him.
1) He asks for a look-up in - would you believe - the 1901 census,
which as the whole genealogical world surely knows by now is
accessible online to everyone! Why can't he do it for himself, I ask?
The answer, I suspect, is because he actually knows full well that
only the index is free and that the full image download has to be
paid for. He more or less said as much when he indicated he wanted to
know who the head of the household was and he clearly knows as well
as the rest of us that the only way to find that out is to get the
image. So he actually expects someone else to download the image and
send it to him, thus expending money on his behalf.
2) Within minutes of someone being foolish enough (sorry, Judy, but I
think you agreed with me eventually!) to send him the 1901 image, he
is back on the list asking for a look-up of the same family in the
1891 census, presumably expecting to take advantage of someone's
subscription to Ancestry and thereby saving himself yet more money.
3) He then posted a THIRD lookup request for yet another name he is
presumably researching.
Do me a favour! This is like begging the price of a cup of tea, as I
said. Come on, folks. Enough is enough, surely.
