Hi Richard,
I totally agree with you, I am just amused that some people think it
possible to actually trace a line back so far with such unshakable
certainty.
I know I have hunter gatherer ancestors, iron age, bronze age relatives, and
like you it fills me with wonderment when I consider for example that mine
obviously survived the black death in England. So I get quite worked up
about so called 'old families' because we all have families dating back to
the beginning (whenever that was), some people are simply more fortunate in
having one of their thousands of lines recorded for a few more centuries
than most because of their wealth and ownership of land.

I would like to think that if enough people around the world took an
interest in genealogy and acknowledged that we all share a common ancestor,
this would help to break down the barriers that people use to divide
themselves from others such as race, colour and creed - that people would
celebrate what unites them rather than fight over physical, philosophical
and political differences.

Regards
Lorraine
