Wonder if anyone can help me on this one? It's a bit of a long shot.
A cousin recently gave me an old postcard with a picture of The Firs, Goathland, on the front. It appears to have been a substantially sized house, with sheep grazing in front. The card is from FRANCES ODDY to her married aunt LOUISA MERRITT- it is undated but Louisa married in 1906 and died in 1916. By 1916 Frances would be 24. There is a note just to say that Frances has arrived safely, it would appear she had been visiting her aunt Louisa in Knaresborough.
Does anyone know anything about The Firs? Who owned it? Is it still there? I have not been able to find anything by googling or on Genuki.
Later on in life, Frances was a cook to a Bowes-Lyon cousin of the Queen Mother and married a CYRIL WILKES.
Thanks for any help.
Diane
