I have always been under the impression that commercial advertising in any
form is not allowed on rootsweb lists.

Currently a member of the YORKSGEN mailing list is advertising a book of
recipes at a cost of 5 UKP + postage from Portugal. when questioned, the
list admin for this list has stated to me and to the list that because this
book was made from contributions from list members it is not therefore a
commercial venture and it is not only acceptable to use the list to
advertise it, but it is positively being encouraged.

I would very much appreciate "the company" opinion on this issue, which I
consider to be a gross violation of the rules for maintaining the rootsweb
lists.


A copy of this message has also been sent to the list in question
