Thanks for your help. That is definitely John in 1901 and I now have most of
his children's marriages. As Helen says, they were rather cavalier with the
spelling of their surname which began as Sharrock in Wigan in the early
1800s. John and his brothers then either went with Sharrocks or Shorrocks,
my gg-grandfather being one of the latter. Other spellings include Sherock
and Tharrock, although I believe the last was a mistransciption from the GRO
in Somerset. And therein lies the other problem, they turn up all over the
country!
