Hello Art

We met at Yorksgen 2010 when we were in the same accommodation block, and
wondered where you had got to this year. Sorry to hear you have had such a
difficult year but glad that you are now feeling much better. Thanks for
the welcome update.

Kind regards

With the increase in interest in family history, and the increased
availability of information online, it is inevitable that more of the chosen
victims will have done some work themselves so they would restrict the
choice quite a bit if they rule them out completely.

I am sure they will often find areas that they can go into deeper with more
resources so I can't see any problem.

BTW, has anyone noticed that the approach of the programme makers seems to
have
subtly changed in the latest series? In my view, they have moved the
goalposts
somewhat.

Welcome back Art. You've been missed.

Sorry to hear about your leg problems, but glad you seem to be making a
recovery.

Hope to see you at Yorksgen 2012

Hello again!!

Those who don't know me probably would like to just delete this email.

Those who do know me may be interested in why I have been away from the list
for so long.

Around Christmas 2010 I began to have difficulty walking with a lot of pain
in my right leg. I saw a Vascular Consultant and he performed two leg
arterial bypasses trying to increase the blood flow to my leg and foot. It
seemed to be working but then my fourth and fifth (little) toes became black
and infected with gangrene.. This resulted in amputation of the two toes and
part of my foot. This was healing up nicely but after a month or two the
three remaining toes became infected with gangrene. The final result is
that my right leg was amputated below the knee. Obviously I spent most of
2011 (up to early August) in and out of hospital. I now have a prosthesis
and have been having difficulty walking any distance greater than 100 yards.
Obviously I cannot yet drive but I will hopefully soon get a new automatic
car with the gas pedal on the left of the brake. If there's a Yorksgen in
2012 I will try my best to get there!!

Hope everybody is well and that the list is thriving.

Your faithfully
Art Eccles

Can certainly back Roy up on this one. Have also to agree that Larry Lamb
was one of the best so far. Larry tweeted that his Mum had met her newly
discovered half brother the week after that part was filmed. Wonderful.

Savoy tweeted over 50 enquiries after people realised they could research
past employees and West Yorkshire Archive Service tweeted increased in
archive visit bookings.

Will be tuned (or should I say re-tuned - Yorkshire has just been
digitised) this evening. Love the resources they use.

I have mentioned before that I have several times heard Alex Graham, the
CEO of
Wall to Wall Television who make the WDYTYA?, speak. Each time he made the
point that the celeb to be featured must know nothing at all in advance
about their
family history. He quoted June Whitfield as one who had to be dropped
because she
turned up with a large cardboard box containing her own researches! Jackie
Depelle
was with me on at least one occasion and will back me up, I'm sure.

Oh Art! I have been wondering where you - formerly so active - had
gone! It is with great relief that I find you among the living!
Knowing what a fighter you are, I have all confidence that you will
conquer this and get on with it.

I think that's one reason we have two of lots of body parts, so that if
we lose one, we still have another.

We have been giving some consideration to seeing if we (Ruth 2 - or was
it 1- and I) can attend Yorksgen 2012. Now I know we will feel even
more of a pull, especially if you fix one of your great meals!! So glad
to have you back!

If Emilia Fox had probably taken a different direction after leaving Armley
Mills,
she would have passed The Leeds Forge - which still has its Fox on the
weather-vane.
