Peter,
How are things in Flitwick?
Thank you for taking the time to look.
I have what I believe are full families of John Sharp & Ethel Fisher and
William Sharp & Jemima Butcher who are parents of the two christenings you
mentioned. I also have about a dozen other Sharp couples having children at
that time. And they are all on IGI.
Which makes me wonder about Francis. Does he belong to the only
non-conformist Sharp family, or has he simply been missed.
Of course, there are hundreds of Sharp families in the area. I have
details of at least a dozen, without tracing all side branches. So, while
most followed the traditional church, there is plenty of scope for a small
percentage to be non conformist.
I also note that IGI batches for Maulden, Clophill and Ampthill split at
1812. It looks like the Bishop may have collected all the old registers and
issued new ones. I wonder if Francis' christening may have "slipped between
the cracks" during the changeover.
I would really appreciate any help, provided it is not out of your way
and doesn't take too much time. I'm trying to help a lady who has Francis
Sharp and is trying to connect to my Maulden Sharp families.
As for the marriage witnesses, I also have a number of BASS families on
side branches, but I can't see a direct link to the Sharps.
Many thanks
Peter Booth (Sydney)
