>Hi
According to the French Dictionary of Biography, Guillaume I, the Lord of
Garlande and Livry, who was probably born in about 1045, married Agnes de
Respy and there were at least five children from the marriage, Gilbert
Payen, Anseau or Anselm, Guillaume II, Gilbert II and Etienne. During their
lifetime, Anseau, Guillaume II and Etienne were all seneschals of France.
Etienne was also the Chancellor of France during the period 1108 to 1137 and
Gilbert II was the Butler of France during the period 1112 to about 1137.
According to "The Platagnet Ancestry" by Turton, Agnes, one of the
grand-daughters of Guillaume I, married Amaury IV de Montfort in Rochefort,
France in 1120 Amaury IV was the great-grandfather of Simon IV de Montfort,
the man who married Eleanor of England, the daughter of Henry II of England.
I am sruck looking for more information on this family. Can anybody provide
additional details on Guillaume I and his descendants or suggest where I can
look to find out more about GuillaumeI and his family.
In anticipation I am Grateful for any assistance
Alf Garland.
