While John's statistical statements are correct (unless I have missed
something, they are always correct) and Ann's example is outstanding in
putting some of what he has said in laymen's terms (as was Charles' shoe
size example in explaining his view), I think that Charles is doing us a
favor - primarily because I think we are at the beginning, as opposed to
midway or the end, of knowing all of the theoretical calculations behind
this phenomenon.
