Hello List,
Whilst we vastly prefer the ease of mouth swabs, of course this isn't always possible. The lab was involved in the forensic identification of tsunami victims and has the capability and experience to extract and test DNA from a variety of sources.
Special Specimen, Class A
(Extraction from Bone, Hair Shaft, Teeth)
Special Specimen, Class B
(Extraction from Body Fluids/Stains on Clothing, Chewing
Gum, Cigarette Butts, Formalin Fixed Paraffin-embedded
Tissue, Hair Root, Licked Envelope/Stamp, Objects)
Special Specimen, Class C
(Extraction from Amniotic Fluid, Cerebrospinal Fluid,
Fresh Frozen Tissue, Ocular Fluid, Plasma, Semen)
Special Specimen, Class D
(Extraction from Blood or Saliva Spots on FTA or IsoCode
Cards)
This list can be found in pdf from at:

The cost of testing is more as additional work is involved, and due to the very nature of the samples, age and range of storage conditions affect the likelihood of retrieving sufficient quality DNA - so this must be borne in mind when considering this type of sample.
Kind Regards,
Alastair
