OK. I've studied Doug's or Ann's smgf graphs and chart till I'm blue
in the face (or cross-eyed) and still don't get it. Then I studied
Leo's calculations and it may have become a bit clearer but I'm not
sure.
It appears from Leo's that a 'fast moving' marker for haplogroup R1b
may not at all be 'fast moving' for I1a??
Here's what I was looking for. FTDNA colors several of their markers
in red and tells us that "The markers in red have shown a faster
mutation rate then the average, and therefore these markers are very
helpful at splitting lineages into sub sets, or branches, within your
family tree."
So I was looking for a way to figure out which of the 'extra' eleven or
so markers SMGF gives us should be red so folks looking at our surname
project yResults chart could use them in the same way.
But when I check FTDNA's 'fast moving' red markers against Leo's R1b
mutation rates I find, for example, 459a way down in the purple band,
385a and 459b next in the blue band, 464a in the turquoise, all
seemingly relatively slow moving.
Perhaps there is no 'one size fits all' and coloring any of them is
bound to mislead someone?
