Gilbert,

My Murray's Handbook of India Burma & Ceylon, 1938, under "Madras"
states:-

"The General Hospital is opposite the Central Railway Station. The
records go back to 1829. Dr. Mortimer published an account of it in
1838. The Hospital is for both Europeans and Indians, with an
out-patients department. The Medical College is accommodated in a
detached building to the East side."

Regards,
brinds
