Some have so little information, it's hard to know if they were intended to
be "mine" or somebody else's match.
Karen,
As mentioned by Jorge, the first thing would be to contact the submitter and
see if you can determine from their records if they are talking about the
same person. Frequently, the vague/incomplete information is coming from a
temple submission. If that is the case, I would find the entry in the IGI
and see if it was patron submitted or if there is a microfilmed record it is
coming from. If it is a record source, go to the film and determine like you
would in research, if it is the same person. If it is coming from an old
temple recorder's book, I would recommend having someone take a look at that
record for you. Frequently, there is a proxy name with their relationship to
the person for whom they are doing the work. That would also let you know
more about the identity of the person. I have merged some identities that
nobody would merge, except that I have seen the recorder's book, and the
proxy and relationship information that was not extracted into the IGI makes
it clear who the person was.
Unfortunately, none of these solutions is easy. Cleaning up nFS is going to
take some time and effort. I wish for us all . . . great patience! :-)
Enjoy your Sabbath,
Jill Crandell
