To date no Melungeon, including Mullins, some of whom were named "Flower
Swift" has documented a genealogy to captive Spaniards or Portuguese working
mines in North Carolina, or to Spaniards or Portuguese exiled as captives of
the Cherokee to the Clinch Mountains.
Answer:
Yes, I have found free persons of color who arrived in 1619 in Virginia as
ancestors of Melungeons who lived in identifiable Melungeon communities.
Some details are in my articles online and more details are in the book I am
now writing. I am also researching a Melungeon line that may have begun
before 1619.
