Hello List,
I have just found your contact and thought my enquiries should be aired here. However, if you have seen my lot on another List please forgive a second go.
ADAM TRISTRAM was found in IRELAND, son of THOMAS TRISTRAM, Shopkeeper. He was born abt. 1820 and was given the description of a Clerk in Holy Orders and School Teacher. However, there are no records yet found to confirm these occupations.
He was apparently in Wexford County and his son, my GGrandfather SAMUEL HERBERT TRISTRAM, R.A. was born there abt.1844. No Mother found. Similarly siblings HORACE TRISTRAM born 1850 Ireland, and THOMAS TRISTRAM born abt.1837.
Family story states family was originally from SHROPSHIRE, but the question is WHO and WHEN??
I have followed TRISTRAM links IN BELBROUGHTON, Worcs., who go back to RICHARD TRISTRAM of Shropshire 1554. Common christian names of LETITIA, JOHN, THOMAS and SAMUEL, but a different social level.
I have followed TRISTRAM links in SHROPSHIRE but seemed to lose them after 1709.
Then some popped up in 1881 census as Methodist Ministers.
Similarly there are numerous TRISTRAM families in Hitchin, HEREFORDSHIRE.
None appear to have the christian name ADAM associated with them and all groups have our other christian names of JOHN, WILLIAM, HENRY, THOMAS......
One line in Ireland which is supposed to be ours is REV. JOHN WILLIAM TRISTRAM, born abt.1845 Co Wexford who died in England in 1926. I believe he was C of E, as was ADAM and SAMUEL. It is thought Rev. J.W. Tristram was ADAM's brother.
I have traced my ADAM into Liverpool, Lancs. and found his second family there and SAMUEL H. came to Australia in 1883.
However, can I assume it possible that the TRISTRAM's of these areas were in fact related at some time? Does anyone have any knowledge of these lines?
Any help very much appreciated.
TIA
Robyn Clarke
