Dr Alexander TODD M.C., L.R.C.S. Edinburgh
arrived 1864 by the Ship "Rangoon" and landed in Napier/
Assistant Surgeon to the Colonial Defence Forc, Military Settlers and Napier Militia.
Assistant Surgeon to the 12th and 14th Regiments
Stationed at the Waipawa-Mate Stockade.

Began a practice in Waipawa after above.

Born 1840 near Castlederg, County Tyrone, Ireland.
Educated at Omagh before studying medicine and obtaining his diplomas in 1862 and 1863.
Member of the British Medical Association. Arrived at Waipawa and purchased 'The Pines.'
1869 received the appointment of District Coroner.

Dr TODD married Annie Mary elder daughter of Henry ARROW in 1875, her youngest sister Lissie and second daughter of Henry ARROW married William RATHBONE in 30 July 1869. Annie and Alexander had two daughters, Ida and Katherine and a son. Photos top of page 73-Rathbones

(Note**(Lissie ARROW second daughter of Henry ARROW, was twenty years WILLIAM's junior being a mere lass of seventeen.) The marriage celebrant was the Rev Samuel WILLIAMS.
William and Lissie had five sons and five daughters in that order. One son Arthur died at the age of seven years.

By early 1900's Dr TODD had retired from medical practice, but still held the position of Public District Vaccinator.

He died in July 1914 at 74 years and is buried in the St Peter's Cemetery in Church street.

Mrs TODD continued to live on at "the Pines' after her husband's death.

Mrs TODD always referred to herself as Mrs Doctor TODD with two "D's"

Her daughter Ida, who remained unmarried predeceased her in July 1926. With Mrs TODD's death in December that same year, a colourful chapter in the life of "the Pines" closed.
