Robert do you have the information that is in Frieda Reid Turner's
compilation of Pace Society Bulletins? Just in case you don't have it, I'll
type some of it up here. I should point out that I do not know Frieda's
sources but I believe they were submissions from other Pace researchers. In
this case it quotes the D.A. R. register but doesn't give the file number.

According to this entry (and this is a paraphrase)

Thomas Pace was born in North Carolina in 1745 and lived there until 1768
when he moved to Georgia. (Earlier on the same page it says he was born
c.1740). He was granted land in St. Paul's Parish (Richmond County,
Georgia) in 1769. (Noble's book says he was also awarded land in Washington
County - state?). He served as an officer in the Revolutionary War and was
on the British Black List as a Rebel Officer. He is on Georgia's Honour
Roll. He moved back to North Carolina and died there in 1795. He was
married to Cebelle Matthews who married second to Benjamin Carr and moved
back to Covington Georgia. (Nobel's book says she died about 1850).

It shows William as born in 1774 and married to Clare Pullen c. 1795.

Now, it is important to note that there is a little piece after this that
says that "...the above was written some years ago on insufficient data.
This time of Halifax was used to fill the role of the "Rebel Officer" a bit
of contriving has been done to meet the conflicting evidence that this
Thomas died back in North Carolina."

"They could not be the same Thomas, one was up in Halifax county buying land
from the Matthews family in 1769, when the other was obtaining 200 acres in
Richmond County, Georgia. One left a will naming eight children, while the
other was planning to get married down in Georgia."

More mysteries:

Noble Hamilton Pace's book says that one Thomas Pace was born about 1700 and
married Amy Boykin. Their children were Nathaniel, Frances, Celia, Thomas,
Amy and Richard.

The other Thomas Pace was born, about 1750 and died in 1795. He married
Cebelle Matthews. She was born about 1763 and died about 1850 they married
about 1780. Their children are listed as: William, John P., Martha, Nannie,
Elizabeth and Hardy.

Hope this helps you.

Subject:[PACE-L] Thomas Pace--Matilda Davis

Hi Everyone: I am trying to track down the parents of
Thomas Pace -and
Matilda Davis . Thomas was born November 15, 1802 in N. C.
Matilda
Davis was born March 14, 1812 in GA. They were married ca
1828 in GA. I
have reason to believe his father's name was William --- but
which one??
I have been up several trees but hit stumbling blocks.
Thomas is my
Great-Grandfather. Does anyone know the names of the
Children of William
Pace who married Clare Pullen in 1795 - Halifax, NC ??The
dates and time
frame will fit - but I need proof. They moved to GA in the
early
1800s. William was the son of Thomas Pace & Cebelle
Mathews - "from
the Pace Society Records" Any help will be greatly
appreciated. Thank
you. Robert
