Dear Sheena,

I don't have any information other than title information from the various
property that was owed by Margaret Spiers, wife of Robert Spiers in 1870.
Most of this property was sold at that time for the purpose of establishing
the Spiers school in Beith.

I just received this information about a week ago and although I have been
able to open and read it, for some reason I have been unable to convert
it
from a GIF file into a different format that I can print. I am hoping that
someone else can convert it and return it as a JPEG or someother format
that my ADOBE program can handle so I can retype it into text format. If
you would like me to send you the title records as an attachment, I would
be glad to just let me know. There is much more relating particularly to
the Sheddans in the earlier years, and then the Caldwells. My feeling is
that the Sheddans were probably from Beith, at least in the 1700s, but
the
Caldwells were probably from Lochwinnoch.

The following information is only a little of what is contained in the

records. (Mostly information related to the Spiers/Speirs family.) I
still am far from figuring out the relationship between the various famlies
mentioned.

PROPERTY MARSHALLAND IN BEITH:
Ownership of Marshalland seems to date back to the late 1600s to a Thomas
Sheddan.
Ownership of Marshalland, Beith passed from a John Sheddan to a William
SPEIRS in 1773. William was "Sasine" in 1773. John Sheddan was Sasine in
1785 and 1786. It was also mentioned that William had a brother John.

PROPERTY KERSLAND MILL IN BEITH:
Kerlsand Mill passed from John Sheddan to John Spier in 1773. ( I believe
it then went to an Allan SPEIR who may have passed away in 1818 leaving
a
wife and children. It is stated in Robert SPIERS bio that he purchased
Kerlsland Mill from an older brother.) Robert acquired Kersland Mill from
Alan SPIER in 1818 (however, it is also possible that this refers to Robert
Speir (born ca 1861).

PROPERTY LUGTON RIDGE:
Acquired by Robert Spier from John Kerr, Sasine in 1815. Assigned by Mary
Wilson and James Ferguson to Robert Spier in 1813.

PROPERTY CUFF:
Sasine John SHEDDAN 1740, 1757. Precept Michael CHARMICHAELL of Hosehead
in favor of Allan SHEDDAN of Cuff in 1757. Disposition by Allan SHEDDAN
to
William CALDWELL 1757. 1758 disposition by Allan SHEDDAN to MATTHEW AND
JAMES GILMOUR. (Note mention of the name GILMOUR in a related family tree
below.) Matthew, James and Barbara GILMOUR to John Spiers. Thomas
CALDWELL to Robert Spiers in 1841.

The Robert Spiers mentioned above was somehow related to my family. We
had
information about the Spiers school in our family album. He may have been
my GGG Grandfather's brother, but I am more inclined to think that he was
probably a cousin. The following
is a very preliminary family tree (in part based on my interpretation of
the above title information, the Old Parish Records and one LDS Ancestral
File I found) from which both Robert Spiers and my GGG Grandfather James
probably descend:

The "???" indicate that these are merely guesses that I have made, so
please don't imput this data into any kind of data base.

These are the only parents I have found in the Old

Parish Records that had a son James born between 1786 and 1795. The

1841 census gave his age as "50". However, since James didn't name any

of his children after a Margaret, Barbara, or Elizabeth, I am inclined
to

eliminate all but two. That leaves a Robert in Dalry and James with

spouse Janet Jamieson from Kilmarnock and Beith. But

James and Janet also had a second son James, so their son born in 1793

probably died before 1802.
