According to MacLysaght (O)Neligan O Niallagain, originated in the
south-east of Ireland. Ballynelligan is near Lismore, Waterford. For
centuries it has been mainly associated with Cos. Cork and Kerry.

Mulligan originally mostly found in Donegal, now in Mayo and Monaghan
mostly.

Hegarty is primarily found in the province of Ulster, which includes
Donegal, also in Derry.
