How many of us are just as careful of the microfilms we use as we are of
the original documents? I see researchers every day who rewind the
microfilm at warp speed, allowing the ends to flap wildly before
stopping. The leaders are chewed up bit by bit and eventually portions
of the actual material are lost. With microfilm companies going out of
business, it will be harder and harder to replace damaged films. It
would be nice to have it all digitized, but until that happens....
